The Classic Reference Pro-Ject, October 30, 2024

The new The Classic Reference combines technical finesse and luxury design like no other turntable. It is based on the The Classic EVO and the experience we gained designing our iconic turntable for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Acacia Brass Version

Piano Silver Version

33/45/78 RPM

Precision motor control

The motor is powered by a DC-driven AC generator which creates a completely clean sine wave to ensure highest speed stability.

Limited Edition

Hand-selected cartridge

The Classic Reference is available with the limited edition VPO Anniversary MC cartridge which was finetuned together with members of the Vienna Philharmonics and built in Europe by Ortofon according to our specifications.

Main Platter

A throne for your records

The platter is precisely machined out of a special aluminium alloy with a TPE ring on the inside, which offers special damping abilities.

Alu Sub Platter

Best speed accuracy

The diamond cut aluminium sub-platter can be machined to much improved and lower tolerances compared to standard plastic sub-platters. It adds more mass to the entire platter and drive system, resulting in additional damping of noise and unwanted resonances.

Sub Chassis Construction

The sub chassis isolates the platter and tonearm from the resonances of the motor and main plinth. The floating aluminium chassis sits on decoupling TPE damping balls.

HIGH END TONEARM

The Classic Reference is equipped with our high end precision EVO 9 AS HG tonearm. It uses an inverted cardanic Swiss ABEC 7 quality bearing with 4 stainless steel tips. The bearing sits in a heavyweight aluminium housing, which provides the needed stability. The massive outer ring is open to avoid resonances. For the EVO AS tonearms, we use a special aluminium s-shape tube with the highest internal damping, paired with a SME-type headshell. The inner wiring is made of flexible high-purity copper which is an optimum conductor for the small phono signal.

True Balanced XLR output

The new The Classic Reference offers classic RCA and additional balanced XLR output sockets. The big advantage of a balanced connection is its ability to remove picked up noise and interferences.
